From pop stars to politicians, artists and activists, every week Bimini will be unearthing the moments that have shaped their guests’ identities, whilst exploring how the world today is impacting the people we are becoming. New episodes every Tuesday.
In a culture that is sex-obsessed, Yasmin Benoit has become the face of asexuality in the UK.
Having fronted documentaries on the BBC and Sky News, as well as writing for the likes of Huffington Post and Attitude, if you're wondering what asexuality looks like, look no further than Yasmin.
Having been brought up in Reading, with Trinidadian, Jamaican and Barbadian descent, Yasmin's journey has been anything but straight-forward. From fighting against the male gaze to fighting conformity in her culture, Yasmin has since become a leading expert in her field - even going as far as being a consultant for the final season of Netflix's Sex Education, and being name as Influencer of the Year in the Bank of London Rainbow Honours.
On this episode of The Pieces, Bimini and Yasmin talk about the importance of talking freely about sexuality, identity and race. They explore the misconceptions around asexuality, Yasmin's activism including the founding of Asexuality Day, and the challenges of navigating societal expectations and the male gaze.
