Imagine breaking into the music industry – gaining GRAMMY nominations, winning a VMA and even charting on the Billboard Hot 100 – and then holding back. That’s the story of 6LACK.

The R&B artist from Baltimore broke through in 2016 with his project “Free 6lack” featuring in 3x Platinum record “Prblms”, following it up with the #3 charting 2018 album “East Atlanta Love Letter”. In the meantime, he toured with The Weeknd and Chris Brown and released collaborations with the likes of Khalid and Normani.

But then – 6LACK held back. He didn’t vanish, having featured on the likes of Lil Durk’s “Stay Down”, “let go my hand” with J. Cole and Lil Tjay’s hit single “Calling My Phone”. But new, original, solo music? There was none in sight for fans.

2023 is the year that 6LACK has declared his comeback. A lesson in the power of patience from an artist truly dedicated to his craft, rather than chasing fame, he is teasing his new album “Since I Have A Lover” with the lead single of the same name.

The 19-track collection is set to explore the rappers relationship, with the lead track reflecting the highs of a “healthy love”. Follow-up single “Talkback” is a conversational record with ‘the man upstairs’ talking about his successes and the life lessons he’s learned along the way to where he is now.

One thing is clear from all of the new music – 2023 is looking like an amazing year to be a 6LACK fan.

Myles McCaulskey sat down with 6LACK to talk about his change in mentality and how the new album is a switch-up from his previous sound.
