Rising from Melbourne, Australia is an artist who is quickly establishing themselves as required listening.

Mia Wray has been songwriting for as long as she can remember – but it was at the Telstra talent development programme in 2011, aged 13, that her natural gift got discovered, leading to her being signed to the iconic Australian label Mushroom Records.

Nearly 10 years after that series of events, in 2020 Mia debuted her artist project; the powerful “Work For Me”, with its infectious thumping drums and outstanding harmonies. Unsurprisingly, shortly after, she was named as “one of the most talked-about debuts of 2020” by Triple J.

Across the singles that have come since, including 2021’s “Never Gonna Be The Same” and, most recently, the deeply personal “Evidence”, Mia has won support from the likes of Rolling Stone and NME – and, with a string of live dates in her back pocket, she has set herself up for a game changing 2023.

Mia Wray sat down with James Gilmore to talk about building her platform, playing around with creativity and the traumatic event which inspired her single ‘Evidence’.
